Priests Credibly Accused of Committing Sexual Abuse Identified in New Jersey and Pennsylvania

More than 180 priests have been identified by the Roman Catholic dioceses in New Jersey have been released. 79 of the 188 priests are still alive. The list can be accessed here. Last year, a Pennsylvania grand jury identified 300 priests and over 1,000 victims of sexual abuse. The Camden Diocese alone published the names of 57 priests.

The Catholic dioceses in New Jersey have formed the New Jersey Compensation Fund for Victims of Church Sexual Abuse of Minors. Victims who settle through the Compensation Fund must agree not to sue the Catholic church.

The New Jersey Legislature has passed a bill, which awaits the Governor’s signature that will extend the statute of limitations for priest sex abuse claims from two years to seven years from the date they realized they had been abused or to the age of 55.
