Uber and Lyft Price Fixing Increases Fares to Reagan Airport Customers

If you have used Uber or Lyft from Reagan National Airport and thought the price was excessive – you were right. And here’s the reason why. ABC7 has reported that:

[e]very night, several times a night, Uber and Lyft drivers at Reagan National Airport simultaneously turn off their ride share apps for a minute or two to trick the app into thinking there are no drivers available—creating a price surge. When the fare goes high enough, the drivers turn their apps back on and lock into the higher fare.

Uber and Lyft Drivers Collude to Create Surge Prices for Riders from Reagan Airport

ABC7 documented approximately 120-150 drivers per night who turn off their Uber and Lyft apps five minutes before they know a plane will land. All the drivers collude to turn off their apps at the same time. This results in surge pricing because of the increased demand for rides and the fraudulent decreased supply in drivers. Once the pricing surges, the drivers then the apps back on and pick up riders, who will have to pay an additional $13 on their fares.

If you have taken an Uber or Lyft from Reagan National and paid for surge pricing, you were a victim of this illegal price manipulation. Contact the lawyers at Klaproth Law to schedule a free, confidential consultation.
